How To Join Detachment 310

To apply for the HSSP (High School Scholarship Program), use the website College Student Scholarship Types | Scholarships | U.S. Air Force ROTC (afrotc.com).

Scholarships are not required to join AFROTC and are competitive for incoming freshmen. The HSSP application should be started in the fall, about 11 months before joining the program in the following fall semester.

Most cadets (approximately 85%) are not on AFROTC scholarship during their freshman or sophomore years. However, in the final two years of the program, all cadets are automatically offered full tuition scholarships up to $18,000 per year.

Enroll in University

Enroll full time (12 hours minimum) at Louisiana State University or at one of Detachment 310's crosstown universities (BRCC, Southern, Southeastern). 

Students seeking a second undergraduate degree or graduate degree are eligible to join AFROTC, but are not eligible for scholarships. 

 

Register for AFROTC Class and Leadership Lab

**You must have a minimum of 6 college semesters remaining to join in the fall and 7 semesters remaining to join in the spring**

(If you do not meet the above requirements, consider extending your undergraduate degree to fit the AFROTC timeline. Or, if you are within 1 year of graduating, apply to OTS.)

Fall Semester:

  • Freshman students enroll in ASST 1001 (class) and ASST 1011 (lab).
  • Sophomore students dual enroll in ASST 1001 (class), ASST 2001 (class), and ASST 2011 (lab).

Spring Semester:

  • Freshman students enroll in ASST 1002 (class) and ASST 1012 (lab).

  • For information on LSU courses please review the LSU Course Catalog and LSU Course Offerings
  • Your Academic Plan should include all the classes you predict you will take. We need this document to know what month and year you will complete all your requirements to graduate, especially if you are joining the program with many credits e.g. 30+ credits. 
  • In-coming Sophomores, don't delay.

  2. Contact Information
  3. How many semesters of full-time student status you have remaining
  4. Confirmation that you have started your WINGS application

  • Original birth certificate or passport
  • Original social security card
  • Transcripts (High School and University)
  • Form 28 (Sports Physical)
  • Vaccination Record
  • All civil citations
  • (Males) Slective Service Card
  • (Prior enlisted) DD214
  • JROTC/CAP/Eagle Scout/Girl Scout Certificate
