The Department is home to over 900 undergraduate majors and nearly 40 graduate students. They study with 26 faculty who are well known scholars in various fields and who are amongst the most honored teachers at this university. Dr. James R. Stoner is a 2026 recipient of the LSU Distinguished Faculty Award, one of the university's highest honors for faculty, recognizing sustained records of excellence in teaching, research, service, and/or any combination of the three.
Dr. Kathleen Bratton is being awarded the 2025 Jewell Enduring Contribution Award for her article with Kerry Haynie titled "Agenda-Setting and Legislative Success in State Legislatures: The Effects of Gender and Race" published in The Journal of Politics in 1999. The award was given to a book or article that stands as an enduring contribution to the political science literature.
Dr. James C. Garand was awarded the 2025 Manning Dauer Award by the Southern Political Science Association for his exceptional service to the profession.
Graduate student, Cana Kim, has been awarded an LSU Dissertation Fellowship for the Academic Year 2022-2023 for her dissertation titled, "Foreign State Images and Public Opinion toward Public Policy."
