Registered Apprenticeship: Early Care and Education Teacher

In partnership with the Louisiana Workforce Commission

Our Apprenticeship Program offers individuals the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience in their chosen field while earning a competitive wage. As an apprentice, you will work alongside experienced professionals, learning the trade through hands-on training and classroom instruction.

For those interested in accessing workforce funding, it is essential to contact us first. We will add you to the Registered Apprenticeship Program Indexed Data System (RAPIDS). Once entered into RAPIDS, you can visit your local Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) office to apply for funding individually. Local funding is currently available for eligible individuals, though it is subject to income guidelines.

For more information or to start the application process, please reach out to us directly. We are here to help you every step of the way, ensuring you have the resources and support needed to succeed in your apprenticeship journey.

Apprentices

Anyone who is interested in accessing workforce funding should contact us so we can add them in RAPIDS (Registered Apprenticeship Program Indexed Data System). Once they are entered, they can go to their local WIOA (Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act) location to individually apply for funding. There is currently funding at the local level that individuals can apply for, but there are income guidelines.

Training Providers

Currently, LSU ECAC is the only approved training program, but our plan is to invite every BESE-approved ECAC to participate. The training program must agree to a minimum of a 1-year program with 144 classroom hours and 2000 work hours, and the program must help identify a Type 3 center with an ECAC-trained mentor who is willing to supervise the apprentice (placement in a Type 3 center is an ECAC requirement). Register your program as a Training Provider here.

Employers

We encourage every Type 3 child care center in the state to participate in the Registered Apprenticeship Program. All employers must agree to pay a minimum of $7.35 upon hire (minimum wage), then at the halfway point of the program increase to $12.27, and at the completion of the program, increase the apprenticeship wage to $15.00. Apprenticeship Employers are eligible for the Apprenticeship Tax Credit Program for each eligible apprentice employed for at least 250 hours during the tax year, a credit of $1.25 per hour is available, up to a maximum of $1,250. It is a non-refundable credit that can offset your tax liability.
